Working Mum style (podcast episodes)
Jess: As I return to work post-baby, my podcast queue has been filling with postpartum fashion advice — which could honestly be helpful to anyone, baby or otherwise.
Here are some key takeaways:
How do I find my style again as a mum? (70min)
- Personal style: use Allison Bornstein’s 3 word method to help guide shopping/style choices, eg. if my words are lounge, active and 70s then only buying things that fit one of those words will help make sure the whole wardrobe works together
- Colour palette: identify your “base colours” (colours your wear most frequently) and personality colours (highlights or pops of colour you are drawn to)
- Outfits: put together 5 full outfits that work, so you can grab one of these when you’re in a hurry. A dress or matching set are good options for an “instant outfit” too.
- Jewellery: use a bowl beside your bed or other accessible place for go-to jewellery, then pop it on as you walk out the door.
Your return to work wardrobe checklist (11min)
- What’s the weather going to be like? This will help you decide if you need layers for cooler weather, and assess what you already have that’s weather-appropriate vs what you might need to source.
- Will you commute? If so, think about the bag, shoes, jackets or other layouts you’ll need for the trip.
- How many days will be in the office? This should guide the number of office-ready outfits needed.
- Review your existing wardrobe: Try everything on, photograph outfits you like, find forgotten items and get rid of clothes that don’t fit.
- Missing items: shop within your values and budget, and consider asking for specific shop vouchers for your birthday or Christmas as you prepare to return to work.

Coaching
Jess: I’m using a free trial of Upskillist to give their Diploma in Coaching course a whirl.
The first module sets out a suggested model for coaching, using the GROW approach to help the coachee understand their situation then encouraging them to take action, based on what they’ve learned about themselves.
Goal: what would you like to achieve?
Reality: what is the current situation?
Options: what options do you have, to move closer to your goal?
Way forward: what will you do as a result of this session?
